This Tea is Twisted

22 March 2018

From Twisted Tea: Our fans love Twisted Tea Original’s true iced tea taste. They also love fast cars, loud music, liberty and justice, and really big BBQ grills. For a refreshing and smooth taste, we use select tea and natural lemon flavor. It’s delicious. It’s a little twisted.

We were lucky. It was a cool sunny day at the Fontana Raceway, and we were there to shoot footage and stills for Twisted Tea, a spiked iced tea beverage. The makers of Sam Adams beer, Boston Brewing Company, also produce Twisted Tea. We were shooting at the track because Twisted Tea sponsored Ty Dillon, driver of the No. 13 Chevrolet SS, Richard Childress Racing and Germain Racing for the 2018 Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series. I'd never been to a NASCAR track, and I was amazed at the colossal size of the venue and the earth-shattering roar of the engines as drivers practiced for Sunday's race.

Casey Webb, comedian, actor, and host of the Travel Channel's of Man v. Food, was on board for the shoot and serving as grill master. He keep us smiling all day and never seemed to tire of retakes. We did the food styling for a tailgate extravaganza that included some over-the-top-crazy eats: hot dogs wrapped in bacon that was cooked with a Twisted Tea and sugar, then rolled in crumbled potato chips; burgers served inside a cake doughnut and drizzled with a Twisted Tea glaze; and ribs, chicken, and wings with a Twisted Tea BBQ sauce.

The wonderful folks from Boston Brewing and some of the crew

We had the challenge of no running water, no electricity, and no kitchen....not uncommon for food styling outdoors, so we hauled in three 6-foot tables, a propane grill, three butane cook tops, four huge coolers loaded with dry ice, ice, and all the food, 12 gallons of water, and a stack of bus tubs and buckets knowing all the dirty dishes would have to be packed up and washed when we returned home. So at 6:30 AM we built our make-shift kitchen behind the huge Twisted Tea mobile trailer.

The shoot was a huge success and our client was thrilled! When I get some of the professional images and footage from the shoot I'll post that too. In the meantime, try one of these delightfully Twisted Teas. They're as refreshing as an ice cold sweet tea, and you'll probably feel a little better afterward!

Cheers!
